IP Access Control

The traditional mechanical lock with key is a security solution that has been in use for thousands of years. The fundamental weakness with this solution is that if a key is lost or stolen the security of the lock is compromised to such an extent that the lock barrel should be changed and new keys should be issued, this is both expensive and time consuming.

An alternative offered is a mechanical push button code lock whereby only a correct pin code is required, whilst keyless in operation even traceability of a key is compromised. For this reason, this solution should be considered less secure. If for instance, a person, for what ever reason no longer has authority to open a door you can't simply take the key from them, the only solution is to change the pin code and inform all others of the new code. This is time consuming and can be very disruptive to other users.

There is an alternative, an electronic version called Electronic Access Control. (EAC). Even a simple standalone access control solution offers many benefits from the traditional lock and key solution.
